Blue Hole & Turneffe Islands with Dives
(Adventure departs from Cisco Base, Belize City. Total Time 7 hrs approximately)
Your Adventure begins once you board your private helicopter at the Cisco Base Heliport in Belize City. This once in a lifetime adventure will take you to see 2 of the 3 atolls in Belize which is part of the largest Barrier Reef system in the Western Hemisphere, stretching for more than 185 miles along the coast of Belize.
Once in flight you will head south east of Belize City and enjoy a magnificent view of the City as few have seen it before. Enjoy the ambiance as you fly over the Drowned Cayes and Gallows Pt Reef. At the cross over of the reef open your ears as the music of the waves take you far away into a relaxation zone.
Keep your eyes open though; you may be one of the lucky few who have the opportunity to see sharks, dolphins, sting rays or manatees along the way.
Dive into the beautiful Turneffe Islands, about 30 miles and 10 miles wide of luscious beauty. This flight enters over the north of the Island at Snake Pt., then you will enter the Central Lagoon where you will fly over many small cayes before reaching the Northern Bogue and the east end of Turneffe Islands. Within the atolls, there are about 200 cayes that are covered by mangroves. The Turneffe Islands are home to a diverse exotic aquatic life! Some of the more popular animals that inhabit this area are the eagle rays, playful dolphins, turtles, huge green morays, giant Jew fish, nurse sharks, reef sharks, grouper, snapper and horse-eye jacks.
The adventure continues as you venture into the open tranquil Caribbean Sea as you continue east heading towards the Lighthouse Reef Atoll, beyond the barrier en route to the one of a kind Blue Hole. The Blue Hole is the largest ocean sinkhole in the world, created by a collapsed underground cavern, hence giving the appearance of a dark blue circle amidst the turquoise sea. The Blue Hole measures 1,000 ft in diameter and 412 feet in depth. It is located approximately 60 miles east from Belize City and in March of 1996 it was declared a World Heritage Site and later declared a National Monument in February of 1999.
Passing inside the Lighthouse Reef you will now see the great Blue Hole surrounded by hard corals that borders it with only two small channels breaking into it. As you go across this spectacular hole, you will be dazzled by its size and color. You will then be dropped off at Northern Two Caye where your dive boat will be waiting to take you on your next adventure.
On your first dive you will have the opportunity of a life time to dive the world’s famous Blue Hole. The limestone stalactites are some of the largest in the world. Experience the thrill of seeing Reef Sharks and Bull Sharks follow [Blue Hole] ing your ascent to the surface from 130 ft down. The second dive of the day is at one of the world’s most pristine reefs – the “Half Moon Caye Wall.” This dive’s highlights include sheer vertical walls that start at depths of 35ft and amazing swim-through that lead you to the edge of the abyss. Following the second dive you will visit the island of Half Moon Caye for a lunch break. Finally, your third dive is another wall dive called “The Aquarium” at Long Caye. The crystal-clear, blue water has an abundance of colorful sponges, corals and marine life such as Reef Sharks, Dolphins and Turtles.
